A singer’s singer, Shenita uses her voice as a precious instrument to convey her depth as a musician. Shenita is a native Georgian, which explains why her vocal range is steeped in southern gospel tempered by formal vocal training from The University of Miami. In 1991, she began her teaching career with Miami-Dade County Public Schools teaching chorus and piano. She is currently a music teacher and Fine Arts department chairperson at Hialeah-Miami Lakes Senior High School.
Over the years as an educator, her music students have been awarded as Grammy Jazz Ensemble participants with the National Grammy Foundation in Los Angeles. Some are also nationally-recognized artists in the entertainment industry and their honors and recognition include careers in songwriting for Grammy-award winning recording artists, award nominations as performing artists, film directing, sound engineering, artist management, and acting in national productions. Their music-related performances can currently be seen on the Aspire Channel, Centric, TBN and VH1.
As for her personal career, in 2015 Shenita released her latest cd entitled, “Color My World,” combining the depth of her soulfulness and razor sharp classical edge and preparing the audience for a new era of sound that brings lyrics back to the point of substance.
